Day 04 - Your views on religion.
To me religion is not something that should be corrupted by everyday politics. Unfortunately that's what it has become and this saddens me. It also is something that has been labeled as a chore of sorts, something that you have to be worthy or upright enough to be a part of. How sad that this is what religion is becoming.
My religion isn't even a religion. Christianity is a relationship. So many pastors, youth leaders, and church goers say this. Now why would this be iterated over and over again? Well cuz it is! What other religion out there does the deity want a personal, deep down, heartfelt relationship with the common people?
However this view of religion, though known, is being lost in this world. Thanks to churches trying to just bolster their congregation they lose sight of what's important. Coincidentally its these superficial actions that give 'religion' its bad rep. Onlookers peer in and see the cliques, the problems, the upright judgment and so do a 180 back outside.
Religion should not be forced, but embraced. No one is ever willing to be force fed. Thus the same is true here. Yet to attract many of us go in the wrong direction. Instead should we not take the stance the early church did? Become radicals - salmon swimming upstream. Do so by mirroring Christ, his actions, his love, his compassion, his grace. Then others will see Christians. From there the rest is history. Seed planted the rest is up to them and God willing will join the eternal family.
